Change,
speed, and innovation are now the name of the game. According to the State of
Fashion 2018 report by BoF & McKinsey, 66 percent of millennials around the
world are willing to spend more on sustainable fashion. It is time brands
listen to their millennial customers demanding more sustainable options,
without sacrificing quality and affordability.
Reformation
is a sustainable women’s clothing and accessories company that practices
complete transparency, posting their CO2 and waste savings on their website.
For every product! Millennials care a lot about sustainable fashion, even
willingly choosing to switch loyalty from brands that don’t promote sustainable
production to more ethical options.
Part of the
problem could be that there is not enough product availability and effective
marketing to cater toward this demographic’s needs. While millennial consumers
state an interest in sustainable brands, the reality is that few labels promote
ethical production. A few are: • Patagonia • Everlane • Reformation
Natalie
Massenet
Natalie
Massenet, the serial fashion-preneur who founded luxury ecommerce site,
Net-a-Porter, launched a venture capital firm focusing on the intersection of
technology and retail in direct-to-consumer, consumer fashion startups. It
could just be that the brands best able to balance newness with affordability
and sustainability will experience the most success.
Sustainability
is just a piece of the puzzle, and it won’t even matter unless brands also meet
consumers’ price point while demonstrating product uniqueness. For consumers to
care, brands must take an all-in approach. Instead of lengthy reports hidden in
a brand’s website, the focus should be on making sustainability information
quick, easy, and digestible.
Fast fashion
is just so, well, easy. A 2016 report by McKinsey revealed that nearly
three-fifths of all clothing ends up in incinerators or landfills within a year
of being made. So although today’s consumers value sustainability, the reality
is that most clothing is not made to last and ends up in the garbage.
Reformation
Reformation’s
online shopping tool, RefScale, shows consumers how much waste they will
contribute in buying a Reformation product versus a less-sustainable option
like a cotton t-shirt. With millennial consumption expected to rise to 45
percent of the global luxury goods market by 2025, our days of ownership may be
over.17 “I think a huge portion of what we wear in the future is going to be
comprised of things we don’t own forever,” says founder and chief executive
Jennifer Hyman, of Rent the Runway.
Companies
are starting to learn that their customers value having more options through
renting over ownership. Hyman claims that consumers would rather have limited
access to designer goods for the price of one article of clothing at Zara. Consuming
sustainably and with purpose is fashion’s new frontier.
Elizabeth
St. John
Liz makes
accessories, hand-made flowers, and details for other gowns with her extra
material. Elizabeth St. John does not print catalogs and runs her atelier
entirely on wind power. Textile dyeing is the second largest polluter after
agriculture. The obsession with immediate access to fashion promotes a
throwaway culture, shortening the lifespan of clothing.
Stella
McCartney, for instance, has been an avid supporter of sustainable fashion
throughout her career. Circularity in the fashion industry refers to the reuse
of materials, discouraging the typical production and waste cycle of clothing.
According to a 2017 study by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, fifty-three
million tons of clothing are produced globally each year, of which 87 percent
is ultimately either incinerated or dumped in landfills.
At the 2017
Copenhagen Fashion Summit, fashion brands made a commitment to employ a
completely circular fashion system by 2020.23 Together, all of the brands that
push for a more sustainable fashion cycle account for 12 percent of the global
apparel market, according to the Global Fashion Agenda.
H&M was
one of the first brands in 2012 to institute a global clothing collection
initiative, and since 2015, H&M has offered grants to companies and
startups with the most innovative ideas in closed-loop textiles. The problem of
overconsumption in clothing has grown to be massive and must be tackled, and
soon.

Principle of
Honesty: to be open,
honest and truthful in all your dealings.
Principle of
Integrity: to
endeavour to do what you think is right.
Principle of
Loyalty: to stick by
your friends and associates through thick and thin.
Principle of
Fairness: to be
even-handed and just in all your dealings.
Principle of
Respect: to have
appropriate regard for other people.
Principle of
Accountability: to accept
personal responsibility for your own life.
natural law is something that operates all the
time and is always predictable. Just like the law of gravity, it is something
that you cannot disobey.
a principle is something that you don’t have to
obey. Sure, if you don’t, you have to suffer the consequences, that’s true.
But, of course, you could choose to not obey the principle of honesty, for
example.
The Law of
Cause and Effect like causes
always produce like effects.
The Law of
Attraction we attract
people and opportunity as a product of who we are, and how we behave. Usually
stated as: like attracts like; meaning that, if you think positive thoughts,
positive things generally turn up. Negative thoughts produce their counterparts
too.
The Law of
Karma (Sowing & Reaping) This idea is to be found in many religions. It is that
you reap what you sow or, in more everyday language: what goes around, comes
around.
The Law of
Abundance (Increasing Returns) You may be familiar with the law of diminishing
returns. Think about how easy it is to lose the first few pounds when you are
dieting and how difficult it is to lose the last few – that’s the law of
diminishing returns in action. But in success literature we encounter the
opposite i.e. that success breeds success. As you become more successful, your
results compound and they are become much easier to sustain – and that is the
Law of Abundance.
you must
always provide “more in use-value than you receive in cash-value” for each and
every transaction in which you deal. This effectively means that you must be in
some kind of business, in order to transact, and that you must ensure that the
other party involved in each transaction always gets a good deal. This approach
ensures that you will get repeat clients or customers and that word of your service
or products will naturally spread as they tell other people about you.

Three
Principles of Money Mastery
First, you should always spend less than
you earn.
Second, understand the difference between
investments and liabilities and realign your spending, as far as it is
reasonable, with the principle of purchasing investments.
Third, work on continually increasing
your earning capacity
There are
certain natural laws and principles that pertain to the achievement of success
in life. The difference between a law and a principle is that you cannot
disobey a law, whereas you can choose to disobey a principle, though, of
course, you would also have to deal with the consequences of doing so.
Attraction
(the Law of Attraction) is an important natural law and that means that it
cannot be disobeyed. But unless you have been deliberately focussing your mind
on the future you want to create, you will probably have so far been missing
all the right connections. The way to correct this is to begin immediately to
construct a detailed picture of the future state that you would like to become
your reality. This will set to work subconscious processes that will operate to
guide you toward success. You must also include, within your imagined future,
specific goals that you can work on achieving, which are, essentially, steps
along the way to the fulfilment of the big picture.
You can think
of this as having two types of goals: outcome goals and performance goals. The
six-figure income is an example of an outcome goal; the number of books I need
to write is an example of a performance goal. You need to include both types of
goal within your future picture.
The key to
operating a successful business is to offer solutions to other people’s
problems and to do so in such a way that the customer feels they have received
a good deal.
You must
stay committed to taking consistent action, making continuous strides toward
your goal, whether it is the creation of your business or some other worthy
goal, until it is finally achieved - this is the Law of Cause and Effect in
action in which you are continually operating on the causes of success.
Remember
that Rome was not built in a day and that any worthy goal you set for yourself
is bound to take time and effort to achieve.
As you move
forward, your results will compound i.e. success will become easier and easier
– this is the Law of Abundance in operation in which success breeds success.
amazon highlights: The 7 Keys to Success / Will Edwards / 2017
2. An Open Mind
3. Persistence
4. Flexibility
5. Faith
6. Thankfulness
7. Passion
Commitment: It is the act of binding yourself, intellectually or emotionally, to a definite course of action. To live a truly successful life,
you do need to first have a dream. To succeed, you must have a dream, or you
may prefer to call it a vision, and you must completely commit yourself to its
ultimate fulfilment - that is the essence of the mental creation. It requires
you to take actions that are congruent with your wishes in order to translate
them into reality, but the first step is to have that dream - your own dream,
not anyone else's ideas about what is best for you in life - and then
absolutely commit yourself to its achievement.
Openness: characterized by an attitude of
ready accessibility about one's actions or purposes Receptiveness: willingness
or readiness to receive - especially impressions or ideas. When you carry your
own dream within, you too will be able to touch the hearts and minds of the
people around you in much the same way and it is a truly wonderful and
uplifting experience when you find out for yourself that the universe does
indeed help you to achieve your goal.
Persistence: refusing to give up, especially
when faced with opposition or difficulty; continuing firmly or steadily
Persistence: the act of continually pursuing something in spite of obstacles. “you
are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you
think.” Translating your dream into a plan and then constantly taking actions,
each and every day, that move you in the direction of your goal is what will
get you there in the end. No matter how big you are aiming, you can succeed if
you keep your destination in mind and then continually take actions that move
you toward the goal. When you meet an obstacle, as you inevitably will,
persistence determines what you will do; whether you will give up or keep
going. Persistence is what gets you back on your feet, dusted down and ready to
go again.
Flexibility: the quality of being adaptable
Flexibility: a measure of the ability to respond to changes in demand "If
you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always
got." If you really want success, in whatever field of endeavour you are
pursuing, you can have it - yes you can! But you need to be prepared to work
for it - to do whatever it takes. Finding out and then doing whatever it takes,
is the quality of flexibility.
Faith: acceptance of principles which are
not necessarily demonstrable Faith: strong belief in something without proof or
evidence. It is truly amazing what you can do when you believe in your own
ability. That's why you need faith - a deep down, dogged belief that,
regardless of the evidence, you are going to make it! You are going to achieve
what you have set out to accomplish. You are going to make a difference in this
life.
Thankfulness: a virtue and a dynamic - activates
the Law of Attraction Gratitude: a positive emotion involving a feeling of
indebtedness If you can learn to make gratitude a part of the way you live your
life, you will be simply amazed at how the attitude of the people around you
will change too.
Passion: strong, enthusiastic devotion to a
cause, ideal, or goal Passion: your heart's one true desire or the deepest
desire of your heart ‘show me a person
who has never failed and I will show you someone who has never tried!’ God is
much bigger than religion and he is in the business of personal transformation.

What
distinguishes the Logical Thinking Process from most problem-solving and
strategy formulation methodologies is its focus on rigorous cause-effect
analysis, based on sufficiency and necessity logic, at all stages of the
analysis. It leads us from the definition of the goal we wish to achieve,
provides us with a rigid process to identify the roots of the undesirable
effects we experience and expose the faulty assumptions and conflicts that
often explain the existence of the root causes.
Logical
Thinking Process is actually a very strong framework to enhance collaboration
and improve communication. Deciphering the causality, unearthing false
assumptions and removing the conflicts behind false paradigms; this is what the
Logical Thinking Process helps us to do.
Using the
Goal Tree to define the goal we strive for and what is necessary to reach it. The
problem is a gap between what I want and what I have. We do this by instinct –
there is a problem – we try to solve it. But the issue with this common
approach is that we keep fixing the effects, not the causes, and often we
don‘t really know if the solutions will work, we tend to skip the analysis and
take shortcuts, very often without really knowing if they will work, let alone
that they will address the real causes.
The Goal
Tree is used to define the ultimate goal we want to achieve, define
what critical success factors must be in place to reach the goal, and
which necessary conditions must be fulfilled to achieve them. Goal
Tree is demanding. The first challenge is to define the goal. Secondly almost
everyone will at first have trouble with following the necessity logic of the
Goal Tree. Using sufficiency logic to find the root of the problem.
We use the
term undesirable effects for the issues. Why? Because very often,
what we call problems, are not really the true problems. They are rather
consequences of some underlying causes, which are the real problems: But often,
a surprising proportion of the undesirable effects will have the same root
cause. As long as a cause remains, we will not eliminate the undesirable effects
it causes.
How to use a
Conflict Resolution Diagram to structure and solve an underlying conflict
we must
remember it is not enough for the assumptions to be factually true. They
must also necessarily lead to the prerequisite. In other words,
for the cause-effect relationship to be valid, it must be valid that only
this tree can provide the shelter needed, and that no other tree can
possibly be beautiful. An injection is an idea for a solution that solves the
conflict. Distinguish between needs and wants. We want to have the
tree, but it is the requirements that state our real needs.
Using a
Future Reality Tree and a Prerequisite Tree to map the way forward
When
constructing a Future Reality Tree, it is important to look for any negative
effects that might be caused by the solution. The purpose of the Prerequisite
Tree is to construct a step-by-step implementation plan for a part of the
Future Reality Tree and unveil and handle the obstacles that are in the way.
